Solo performance has never been so popular, from storytelling collaboratives like 2nd Story and Boy Girl Boy Girl to the current spate of one-person comedy sketch shows. “Afrikan-centered” theater company MPAACT makes a late-night contribution to the form this fall with “Solo Jams.” The series opens with a free panel discussion on the process of creating a solo show, featuring performances by Sati Word and Monette McLin (Wed 9/28, 8 PM). That weekend Tyla Abercrumbie peels down to her inner guru in Naked and Raw, a one-act with poetry and music (Fri 9/30, 11 PM). Then, backed by a three-piece band, Sydney Chatman describes her childhood struggles with religion in Judgment! (Sat 10/1, 11 PM). The following week, Jesse Dean Stanford merges music and storytelling in In the Present (Fri 10/7, 11 PM), and Jonathan Keaton explores his status as a perpetual minority of one in Angrily Positive (Sat 10/8, 11 PM). “Solo Jams” continues with 11 PM performances by Arthur Luis Soria (Fri 10/14), Sati Word (Sat 10/15), Monette McLin (Fri 10/21), Marz Timms (Sat 10/22), Kristin Ellis (Fri 10/28), and John Steven Crowley (Sat 10/29).
