One day in 1981, photographer Kevin O. Mooney was struck by the desolate image of one lonely lifeguard doing duty in the pouring rain on the empty beach at Foster Avenue. Mooney made a picture and it became the first in his “Lifeguard Series,” which includes Norwood Park Pool (1987), shown at left. His lifeguard pictures go on display tomorrow, December 10, at Prairie Avenue Gallery, 1900 S. Prairie Ave. The exhibit, called “Views From Mind and Memory,” includes another series by Mooney (southwestern landscapes) and two groups of photos by Paul Elledge (a fantasy series and some portraits). It opens with a reception from 4 to 10, and continues through February 7. The gallery is open 1 to 5 Friday though Sunday and by appointment on weekdays; admission is free, and more info is available at 842-4523.
