Though commonly associated with a simpler, pastoral life, quilting has long been used as an incisive form of political commentary. Kathy Weaver’s Guns Are Us, Funerary Piece Three comments on our society’s destructive obsession with firearms–the homespun medium reminds us of the human cost. Weaver is one of three local artists included in the exhibit “Covering the Cause: Social Commentary in Quilts,” which opens with a reception from 5 to 8 next Thursday, February 5, at the Harold Washington Library Center, 400 S.
