Alice, Larry, Dan, and Anna are, quite literally, sick fucks: four damaged souls involved in an obsessive sexual round-robin in contemporary London. Modishly crossing Nick Hornby’s romantic haplessness with a Neil LaBute-like cynicism, this 1997 Patrick Marber play about what passes for love can get tedious under the best of circumstances. But it needn’t be the wreck Brian Sage’s MOB production makes of it. Pretty much everything’s off. Alice isn’t the nymphet she should be, Dan isn’t the predator, Larry isn’t the prole beast, and–catatonically underplayed for most of the show–Anna just isn’t. What’s more, Sage’s decision to drop the English accents is as damaging as it is incomprehensible, obscuring important class themes while causing Marber’s Briticisms to clank loudly. Through 8/27: Thu-Fri 8:30 PM, Sat 8 PM, Sun 3:30 PM, Victory Gardens Theater, first-floor studio, 2257 N. Lincoln, 773-871-3000, $16, two for one Thu.
