There’s a second Cubs curse in Michael Flores’s new play, not just the famous one about the team turning away the Billy Goat’s billy goat. Here the totem pole at Lake Shore Drive and Addison is the problem: instead of facing east it’s facing west, straight at Wrigley Field. Flores’s story about the beer vendors, secretary, and new ballplayer who change the Cubbies’ luck could be adorable, but it’s so badly done it’s agonizing. The script wobbles and veers, the directing is lifeless, and it’s painful to watch the mumbling and miming that pass for acting. There’s simply no reason to see this strikeout–if you want to see the Cubs win, wait till spring. Through 3/10: Thu-Fri 7:30 PM, Sonotheque, 1444 W. Chicago, 312-226-7600, $10 (includes admission to dance club).
