Bailiwick Repertorys Directors Festival 1992, produced by Cecilie Keenan, offers productions ranging from plays and musicals to performance art and monologues; some are well-established classic and contemporary selections, while others are brand-new pieces. They’re mounted by a slew of directors, most of them little known, who are looking for an avenue to showcase their work and get their names out to the public. See? It’s working already. The festival concludes with two “Best of the Fest” programs reprising a handful of shows deemed to be the worthiest of repetition. Program A runs on Thursday and Saturday, April 23 and 25, Program B on Friday and Sunday, April 24 and 26. Each night’s admission price is good for any or all shows that evening; listed starting time is for the whole night’s program, so call the theater if you’re just interested in seeing a particular show. NOT I Mouth tells her life story, in Samuel Beckett’s minimalist play. The production, directed by Gareth Hendee, is signed for the heating impaired.

CONT(R)ACT Max Burbank’s new surreal comedy about “the terror of crossing the line from the familiar to the unknown” is directed by Marc Rosenbush.

I SHOW UP AND SMILE Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis seeks personal fulfillment, in this “campy musical” written by Scott Sandoe and Steve Taylor and directed by Edward Kerros.


STIGMATA Brendan Baber’s play contains “storytelling and traditional theater, chock-full of sex and violence, none of which is shown.” James Pelton directs.

THE CASE OF THE CRUSHED PETUNIAS Neil Wilson directs Tennessee Williams’s fantasy about a woman given the chance to celebrate the miracle of life.

THE PUBLIC Federico Garcia Lorca’s surrealist tragedy, directed by Derek Goldman, explores love, death, and theology in relation to the sexual and political oppression under which the homosexual antifascist Spanish playwright lived.
