Shepsu Aakhu’s mournful new play for the Ma’at Production Association of Afrikan Centered Theatre is interesting but not quite successful. Two recluses–a diabetic (a layered Leonard House Jr.) and a manic-depressive (a bristly Angela Walsh), both in their own apartments–are starved for human contact but afraid, and so post videos on an online dating site. They then correspond by phone and e-mail but never actually meet. Directed by Mignon McPherson Nance, this script about our isolated digital age is occasionally fascinating, especially the characters’ monologues about their inner lives. But because neither grows we lose interest, and the play drags instead of deepens. Through 3/12: Thu-Fri 8:30 PM, Sat 8 PM, Sun 3:30 PM, Victory Gardens Theater, first-floor studio, 2257 N. Lincoln, 773-871-3000, $22.
