The second of Hefty Records’ bimonthly Immediate Action nights at Sonotheque is an event of note for electronic music enthusiasts. Fresh off a lap around the European festival circuit, Telefon Tel Aviv anchors the bill; since the duo of Josh Eustis and Charles Cooper last played their adopted hometown (opening for Amon Tobin at the Empty Bottle in November), they’ve released their second Hefty full-length, Map of What Is Effortless, and added to their resumes as producers, recording If You Can by locals the Race and a solo effort by Pulseprogramming’s Marc Hellner. Eustis has also manned the board for a new record by L’Altra (to be released on Hefty in January) and teamed with TTA collaborator and former Nine Inch Nails player/producer Danny Lohner on tracks for A Perfect Circle. In addition to a live laptop set together, Eustis and Cooper will each take a turn at DJing. Slicker, aka Hefty honcho John Hughes III–who put out his third LP, We All Have a Plan, earlier this summer–will hit the decks as well, spinning a set of white-label oddities and party tracks to open the evening. Shin Tasaki, half of Tokyo electronica team Spanova, will close it with a set of downtempo, trip-hop, and post-rock. Spanova are currently completing their first U.S. full-length (for Hefty) with an eye toward an early ’05 release. 21+, $10 (“ladies FREE before 10 PM,” says the club’s site). Friday, August 13, 9 PM, Sonotheque, 1444 W. Chicago; 312-226-7600.
