The first play on this double bill of Christopher Durang one-acts is about a nebbish who finds himself performing a bizarre script without rehearsal, and the second features a doctrinaire nun whose lecture is interrupted by four aggrieved former students. Under Aaron Shapiro’s direction, the actors manage to land most of the important gags, though their tendency to overplay veils the desperate loneliness simmering beneath the characters’ wackiness. But perhaps because Shapiro was anxious to freshen up 25-year-old texts, he’s added intrusive multimedia effects that distract the audience and disrupt the comic momentum. Durang is crazy enough without trippy videos and eerie puppets. Through 9/17: Thu-Sat 8 PM, Sun 7 PM, Oracle Productions, 3809 N.
