In this 60-minute adaptation of a Chinese folktale by writer-director Tami Zimmerman Henry, the lotus fairies become bored with dance parties and mah-jongg in their home by the heavenly Pool of Green Waves and disobey their guardian to play in the mortal realms. When a drought threatens the earth, they risk everything to rescue their newfound companions. This Tireswing Theatre family show has its flaws–choreographer Ling Ling Pao’s dances, though exquisite, tend to halt the dramatic action. And Ray Chao, playing a variety of characters, is clearly out of his league. But Denice Lee, Jennifer Shin, Melissa Canciller, Aimee Shyn, and Semi Lee make the five irrepressible heroines captivating. Through 5/8: Fri 8 PM, Sat 5 and 8 PM, Sun 3 PM.
