Bluegrass Legends Concerts
1030 Central, Evanston
Since 1998 Chip Covington has been one of the area’s best advocates for authentic bluegrass music, presenting concerts first at the tiny Evanston cafe Bean Counter (which closed a couple of years later) and since 2001 at the suburb’s American Legion Hall. Each season Covington and his partner, Mike Miller, present four or five concerts, and a glance at past bookings tells you all you need to know—James King, Cadillac Sky, David Davis, Audie Blaylock, Melvin Goins, Charlie Sizemore, Larry Sparks. No other bluegrass presenter nails the music’s present and future like this. —Peter Margasak
