That Anastasia Chatzka hasn’t experienced burnout is a wonder. The 31-year-old has financed her own business by working multiple jobs, designed her own fashion line, managed two boutiques (located in Ukrainian Village and Hyde Park), handled on-site alterations, presented seasonal fashion shows, and now plans to open pop-up shops in LA and NYC, all while keeping up a exceptional level of personable customer service. “I work from 10 AM to 10 PM just about seven days a week,” she says. An intern for Anna Sui and Betsey Johnson fresh out of college, Chatzka learned early that “fashion is a world that does not take breaks or days off.” To make her life a bit more convenient, her design studio is located in the back of her Wicker Park shop, in the basement of which she keeps extra sizes ranging from two to 16. All of her wares are locally produced at affordable prices—another one of her balancing acts. The average skirt retails for $85, and blouses cost around $65, while fancier (and pricier) pieces are also available in limited editions. For the urban girly girl, Chatzka’s clothes are perfect; and if a garment’s size isn’t quite so, it can be altered in her charming atelier free of charge.
