The Walking Guy

The Walking Guy, who bears an uncanny likeness to Yanni, has been roaming the streets of downtown and River North for decades. He is as much myth as man. Along with the yeti, the Roswell crash, and the Montauk Monster, little documentation of the Walking Guy exists. Even less is known about him, inviting all sorts of theories (one Internet poster claims he may be a ghost; I think he is a retired professor of literature named Whittaker). His once lush raven mane is now a whitish gray. He is known to take public transit; a Facebook page exists in his honor. All we really know is that he is still walking the streets of Chicago, though we can’t say whether he is aimlessly wandering or slowly ambling to a place with purpose, hands thrust into pockets, a mustachioed urban gadabout. —Alex Parker
