Open Books Pilsen

Open Books Pilsen isn’t hidden, exactly. But since it’s camouflaged as a garage on a quiet block of 19th Street, a few minutes’ walk from the taquerias and bakeries and thrift shops of the commercial strip on 19th, you could easily walk right by—unless you happen to peer through the door and notice the colorful rows of book spines, the universal sign of welcome to any bookworm. The space doubles as the nonprofit bookstore’s warehouse, so the book selection is smaller than in Open Books’ month-old West Loop location in the new Literacenter. But that means you’ll only be occupied for a few hours, not a few days.
