White Mystery
It’s unlikely any band in Chicago is more adept at marketing themselves than White Mystery. The pair embrace their most hype-able qualities—keywords “siblings,” “redheads,” “garage rockers”—with a passion, and referred to themselves recently as “equal parts band and brand.” The fact that this self-description comes from an artist’s statement accompanying a gallery exhibition of some of the screen-printed T-shirts and underwear that the group also offers at their merch table says a lot about the amount of effort they put into what most bands consider an afterthought. —Miles Raymer
