A tie: It’s increasingly risky to open a real retail storefront these days, what with the sinking economy and having to pay someone to actually sit there and mind the till. These two women have taken the side door by opening pop-up vintage shops. Katie Ernst, owner of Revision Home, a design studio in the Kinzie industrial corridor, opens the doors to her warehouse of design-friendly finds four weekends a year and sells online for the remainder. (Her next sale is September 17-18.) What you’ll find here: designer interior stuff like reupholstered vintage chairs, modern industrial storage units, and fancy Italian chandeliers.

In Gage Park, Lynne McDaniel opens An Orange Moon, her fabulous den of vintage finds, every Friday and Saturday from 11 AM to 3 PM. Inventory includes Danish-modern credenzas, 1960s dining sets, midcentury art pottery, and sleek retro sofas, all at shockingly affordable prices. McDaniel might even throw in a glass of something cool and refreshing while you browse.
