Most duffers might pick Sydney R. Marovitz (aka Waveland), with its lovely setting right next to the lake. But it’s almost always crowded with leisurely playing groups who apparently have all the time in the world, and it just takes too damn long to get in a round, even at nine holes. Your best bet for a relatively quick game on a decent nine-hole course within city limits is Robert A. Black (aka, affectionately, Roberta Flack) at Pratt and Ridge. At around 2,360 yards, the par 33 course is easily walkable, though there’s cart rental too. Golfers include a nice mix of young and old—and most know how to keep pace. Honorable mention: Jackson Park for its 18 holes.
