Tamale Space Charros

Inspired by the early 20th-century Mexico City-based avant-garde movement stridentism, performance artist Aztlan Cardinal and cohorts have a scheme to launch a “mobile tamalli space ship” (which may take the form of a gas-powered land vehicle) sometime this summer, featuring the Stridentist Charro (“cowboy”), who’ll suggest wine pairings for the tamales and moles. “We want to bring together food and performance art in one concept,” says Cardinal. “The Stridentist Charro will perform by wearing a futuristic charro hat and reading stridentist poems while the tamales are being served.” Cardinal also promises that the as-yet-unnamed chef, a veteran of Frontera Grill and Topolobampo, will wear a lucha libre mask.
