Because I can barely stand Pig Destroyer still not releasing a new album (though the rumors are getting louder), I’ve been blaring a lot of All Pigs Must Die as of late, which makes some sort of warped sense in my brain. A grind-heavy hardcore punk band comprised of Kevin Baker (Hope Conspiracy), Ben Koller (Converge), and Adam Wentworth and Matt Woods (Bloodhorse), APMD released its debut full-length, God Is War, on Southern Lord last year.
The dudes played Subterranean last week, and I missed it, like an idiot. In an attempt to make up for my oversight, today’s 12 O’Clock Track is “The Blessed Void,” a scorcher with that oh-so-lovely Discharge ring to it. Koller owns the song with his nuclear-attack drumming, shifting with an almost easygoing fluidity from blastbeat to double-bass punk to stomping breakdown. The on-fire guitar line at the end wraps things up beautifully.
