When I previewed the Aluk Todolo show that happened at Ultra Lounge last September, I couldn’t stop waxing poetic about the blastbeat-scorched “Occult Rock I,” the opener on the French metal trio’s double album of almost the same name released last year, Occult Rock. Today’s 12 O’Clock Track, the epic and tense instrumental isn’t just about the drummer’s ability to hold a rapid-fire beat for ten plus minutes, but the intricate psych flourishes and swooshes in the guitar work and the hypnotic monotony that produces an eerie, foreboding calm.
