• The Bravest Man in the Universe cover
  • Yesterday the news broke that soul icon Bobby Womack has been diagnosed with colon cancer. According to a Facebook post by renowned funk bassist Bootsy Collins, Womack is in the first stages of the disease and remains in good spirits. Here’s hoping Womack has a speedy recovery, as he’s no doubt excited about the upcoming release of his newest solo full-length, The Bravest Man in the Universe, his first studio effort since 2000’s Christmas Album.

Today’s 12 O’Clock Track is “Please Forgive My Heart,” the first single off Bravest Man. The song is a smooth bit of electro-pop with a funky, toned-down beat and a warm synth melody that sounds surprisingly like something from a Beach House number. Britpop Renaissance man Damon Albarn and XL owner Richard Russell produced the album, and their work here is clutch, but Womack’s raspy croon steals the show. XL will release The Bravest Man in the Universe on June 12. After the jump, check out the strange, nearly motionless video for “Please Forgive My Heart.”
