Australia’s Royal Headache were in the States for a handful of dates last week—they played at the Burlington on Thursday, and I was lucky enough to share the stage with them on Friday in Madison, Wisconsin. Their spirited sets of Guided by Voices-leaning soul-pop were just another reminder that pretty much all the punk coming out of Australia right now is fucking excellent—the jangle of Eddy Current Suppression Ring, the twisted postpunk of Total Control, the down-and-out damage of Kitchen’s Floor. Today’s 12 O’Clock Track is from fellow Aussies Holy Balm, whose new full-length, It’s You, comes out next month on R.I.P. Society Records, the label that’s home to most of the bands I’ve mentioned.
