The garage-rock world took a hit right before Christmas when John Dwyer announced that his ultraprolific band Thee Oh Sees, one of the biggest names in independent rock, would be going on indefinite hiatus. Dwyer is a man who never stops creating, so it was only a matter of time before we heard from him again, but the big question everyone had was, “What’s next?”

Well it took less than a month for Dwyer to resurface, and this time around it’s as Damaged Bug. A solo LP from the new project is in the works to be released on February 25th via his label, Castle Face Records, and this week we were given a taste of what’s in store with today’s 12 O’Clock Track, “Eggs at Night.” The new song is quite a departure from the guitar-heavy, rave-up psych of Thee Oh Sees, trading in their tight and groovy rock ‘n’ roll for minimal, synth-driven new wave. Hearing Dwyer dial it down from his usual spazzy self and deliver a calm, deadpan vocal over a bassy keyboard line may seem strange, but as expected with anything this dude touches, it’s great. Hear “Eggs at Night” after the jump.
