One-woman synthesizer band Stacian (aka Dania Luck) celebrates the release of her debut album tonight at the Burlington. Songs for Cadets, which officially drops tomorrow on local label Moniker Records, features heady, thumping masses of synth that burst out from behind Luck’s bent and manipulated voice as quickly as they coalesce. The tracks seem danceable, almost, but the dark rhythms are maybe more fitting for a ritual sacrifice than a night out at the club. It’s one of the most impressive releases I’ve heard this year from a Milwaukee band—given that her label’s here and that she’s celebrating her first record here, Luck should just move to Chicago.
