Choosing a 12 O’Clock Track for Christmas Eve initially seemed like a pretty big burden to bear. Encapsulating the holiday season—with its open fires, mounds of pastries, and drunken uncles—into a single song began to bend my mind into a pretzel. Then, like a gift from God, I remembered that most everyone right now is either last-minute shopping or staring blankly at a TV while thousands of small, screaming humans scurry around hopped up on sugar. So here’s “Eyes of Madness,” the opening track on the 2006 album Nerve Damage, from Portland-based crust-punk behemoth Tragedy. I’ve just really been into Tragedy lately.
