• “Excuse me, did you drop something?”

By a weird coincidence Chicago is home to musical acts named after my two favorite sci-fi novels: Dhalgren, a drone-tastic psychedelic band named after Samuel R. Delany’s sprawling, cryptic epic, and Valis, named for Philip K. Dick’s monumental novel-slash-nervous-breakdown, which makes heavy electronic music redolent of the city’s old industrial dance scene. A blogger I’ve never heard of, who I’m guessing is not a native English speaker, describes Valis thusly: “This sound threatens you like an American muscle car being driven by a sex crazed cop! Run for you life but run in time to the beat!” Which pretty much works.

After the jump, hear Valis’s remix of “Kup Kup” by French techno artist Joie Noire.
