The Jay Pritzker Pavilion (201 E. Randolph) kicks off Chicago Winter Dance Fest tonight with the first in its series of evening ice dance parties, which will take place from 7 to 11 PM every Friday and Saturday through Sat 2/27. Tonight’s party is 1950s-themed; future parties will feature disco, big band, and “show tunes.” The parties will include ice dancing demonstrations, prize giveaways, and other festivities.

The Chicago Ice Dance Foundation and Ice Reach (a nonprofit that promotes ice sports) will offer free ice skating lessons on Saturday and Sunday mornings through Sun 2/28. Half-hour lessons for beginners take place at 8 and 9 AM, and intermediate lessons are at 8:30 and 9:30 AM. If skates aren’t your thing, one-hour dance lessons covering tango, swing, and other styles will also be available at 1 and 5 PM on Saturdays and Sundays through Sun 2/28 on the Pritzker Pavilion stage, with open dancing to follow each session. The complete schedule is here.
