For those avoiding rowdiness but not drunkenness this St. Patty’s day weekend, free tastings at Chicago wine shops are a classy alternative.

Friday, March 13: From 6:30 to 7:30 PM, Taste Food & Wine (1506 W. Jarvis) offers Amani chardonnay from Stellenbosch, South Africa, made by one of the few black female winemakers in South Africa.

Saturday, March 14: Logan Square’s Provenance (2528 N. California) offers new and seasonal wines from 3 to 6 PM. In the West Loop, Just Grapes (560 W. Washington) is sampling five wines from South Africa, Washington, Spain, and Australia from 2 to 4 PM. And over in Wicker Park, from 2 to 5 PM Red & White Wines (1861 N. Milwaukee) offers wines from Italy, Oregon, and New Zealand, plus a French ale.
