Chicago jazz musician Kelan Phil Cohran performs a free set on Tue 5/18 at 7 PM in Puck’s Cafe at the Museum of Contemporary Art (220 E. Chicago). Cohran’s show is part of a month-long series of performances by artists who have been featured in Steve Krakow’s comic The Secret History of Chicago Music, which runs every other week in the Reader (work by Krakow (aka Plastic Crimewave) is on display at the MCA through 5/30). Cohran played trumpet in the Sun Ra Arkestra before going on to form his own Artistic Heritage Ensemble; he also cofounded the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM). Admission to the MCA is free all day on Tuesday.
