Work in the Loop? You’re taking an early lunch today. Chicago’s great physical theater company 500 Clown—which, by the way, has its fingerprints all over the almost-as-great Goodman Theatre production of Animal Crackers, with one member, Molly Brennan, playing Harpo and another, Paul Kalina, serving as clowning director—perpetrates its first Hit and Run performance this morning starting at 11:30 AM.
Sponsored by the Richard H Driehaus Foundation Artists In The Streets program (Did you even know such a thing existed?), the event is called Get Happy, and it will be “marching” along the following route: State Street from Congress north to Randolph, east on Randolph to Michigan, then north again on Michigan “as far as we get by 12:45” PM. Says company member Adrian Danzig via Facebook posting, “If we make it to Ghirardelli’s we’ll buy hot chocolate there.” He also says, “The entire route is a performance zone. We’re going to be as incognito as exuberantly happy folks can be—so you can watch (and feel free to add an impromptu or rehearsed expression of large happiness of your own)—we want to see if we can inoculate Chicago with a dose of ‘Yes!'”
If you have a response to the event, Danzig asks that you send it to GetHappy@500clown.com.
