7/13 — Human Quena Orchestra at the Empty Bottle

The Human Quena Orchestra, one of Reader critic Miles Raymer’s picks for this week’s List, will play tonight at 9 PM as metal takes over the Empty Bottle’s weekly free night (1035 N. Western). “Their recent The Politics of the Irredeemable (Crucial Blast) is 52 minutes of droning, whistling, scraping feedback and nearly buried black-metal shrieks, punctuated by isolated guitar-and-percussion impacts that sound like intermittent artillery shelling,” Raymer writes. “They’ve dispensed with melodies almost entirely.”
