It’s Still Elementary, the followup to It’s Elementary, a 1996 documentary exploring LGBT issues in elementary school classrooms, screens free tomorrow night at UIC (1040 W. Harrison). The film revisits many of the students, teachers, and community activists portrayed in the original work. One of them, Mary Morten, a prominent figure in the local LGBT education movement, will be in attendance at the screening. The program starts at 5 PM with clips from the original film (see Derrick Mathis’s review for the Reader here) and ends with a reception with light food and drink. The event takes place in the L285 Auditorium, in the basement of the Education Performing Arts and Social Work building. (Guests are advised to look for bright-colored fliers.)
