We’re kicking off Giving Tuesday early this year! Your donation today will be matched up to $10K, doubling your impact! If you donate $50 today, the Reader will receive $100.

The Reader is now a community-funded nonprofit newsroom. Can we count on your support to help keep us publishing?

Steven Banks, who performs as Billy the Mime on Saturday at the Lakeshore Theater, is a mime with a pedigree, having studied under Marcel Marceau and at the Barnum & Bailey Clown College (the mime equivalent of being a classically trained metal guitarist, more or less). But Banks is also a songwriter, guitarist, and drummer and the former head writer for Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius and SpongeBob SquarePants.

If his miming isn’t your thing (see below), I highly, highly recommend his breakthrough one-man show Steven Banks’s Home Entertainment Center, a tour de force of indie vaudeville and available in seven parts on YouTube. It is begging for a rerelease. Anyway, here’s Banks as Billy the Mime doing “JFK Jr., We Hardly Knew Ye.”
