Street View is a fashion series in which Isa Giallorenzo spotlights some of the coolest styles seen in Chicago.

Blogger Dani McGowan of Mermaid Waves attended the 14th annual Driehaus Awards for Fashion Excellence, which provide an opportunity for emerging designers to showcase their work and further develop their careers. The main prize winner, Liz Bahl, received $7,500 and a garment display along with a mentorship opportunity at Saks Fifth Avenue. Proceeds from the evening benefitted the participating students, five fashion and design schools, as well as the Costume Council of the Chicago History Museum.

I spotted Dani right after the show, while she was discreetly dining with a few other guests. Dani’s windowpane print cameo dress paired with her elegantly disheveled updo made her stand out even in a crowded room filled with antique cars. Her black-and-white color scheme—freshened up by the mint clutch—and the modern shape of her outfit created a chic yet contemporary look.
