Hip-hop wunderkind Timothy Jones, aka DJ Timbuck2, passed away December 19, and his friends have banded together to put on a tribute show: tomorrow night’s Timbuck2uesday at Metro. Jones launched a series called Timbuck2uesdays seven years ago at the Shrine, spinning hip-hop every week; he brought the night to Beauty Bar five years back.

Timbuck2uesdays was just one of the platforms from which Jones (also a WGCI on-air personality and Treated Crew member) helped hold the Chicago hip-hop scene together. The community is giving thanks with this tribute. Among the 20 DJs on the bill are the Twilite Tone, one of Common’s earliest collaborators and Jones’s mentor; Mano, the rapper-producer and Treated Crew leader who recently coproduced the Weeknd‘s multiplatinum hit “The Hills”; and DJ Pharris, a producer as well as a longtime local radio host at Power 92. Treated Crew rapper and recent GOOD Music signee Holt (formerly Hollywood Holt) serves as master of ceremonies.

The show’s flyer also promises special guests, and considering that Jones worked with and helped boost the careers of so many Chicago artists, I imagine there will be plenty of them. Tickets for Timbuck2uesday are $20, and the proceeds go to Jones’s family; the show kicks off at 8 PM. See the full lineup below.
