This week Gossip Wolf and the rest of the Reader staff say good-bye to longtime contributor and Gossip Wolf cocreator Jessica Hopper, who’s also one of my all-time best buds. She’s leaving us to focus on her music writing for the Tribune. She will be missed. So will beloved local DIY venues Treasure Town and Mortville—who, as Gossip Wolf reports, are getting the boot from their landlord.

In less bummer-making news, this week’s B Side also features my profile with up-and-coming experimental electronic duo Supreme Cuts, an Artist on Artist conversation between Pelican guitarist Trevor de Brauw and local scene stalwart Noah Leger (though there’s a good-bye there too, as founding member Laurent Schroeder-Lebec is leaving Pelican), a Secret History of Chicago Music on obscure doo-wop group the Shells, Soundboard picks that include the Three 6 Mafia, Codeine, Jack Oblivian, Dead Prez, and Windy & Carl, and guides to this weekend’s EDM-oriented Wavefront Music Festival and the rootsy FitzGerald’s American Music Festival.
