Wow, just like the old days: this week we have not one but two long reviews, of Room 237, a documentary about the various hidden meanings people find in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining (1980), and Tabu, a Portuguese drama that harks back to the old F.W. Murnau feature Tabu: A Story of the South Seas (1931). We’ve also got new capsule reviews of Evil Dead, a remake of the Sam Raimi classic; The Host, a sci-fi date movie adapted from the book by Twilight author Stephenie Meyer; Never the Same: The Prisoner of War Experience, about U.S. soldiers who were interned by the Japanese in World War II; and The Place Beyond the Pines, a new drama by Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine).
