The Reader office is buzzing as the Pitchfork Music Festival approaches (stay tuned for our preview coverage), but several great shows during the first half of the week are keeping Soundboard from entering full-on jean-shorts-and-sunglasses mode just yet. Well, we’re always wearing jean shorts and sunglasses, but that’s beside the point. Let us continue.

Tonight, We Are Scientists stop by Schubas, Robbie Fulks hits the Hideout for his usual Monday residency (a full-band tribute to George Jones in his 1950s rockabilly years), and Beat Kitchen hosts Killer Moon on the main stage and Extraordinary Popular Delusions upstairs, with Edward Wilkerson Jr. sitting in for regular reedist Mars Williams. Tuesday, Brooklyn Rider performs at Ravinia, Magic Milk headlines at the Empty Bottle, and Rob Mazurek’s Exploding Star Orchestra plays a free show at the Whistler.

Beyonce plays at the United Center Wednesday, though it’s tragically sold out. But you can still get in to see the Hecks at the Empty Bottle, the band we called 2012’s Best New Rock Duo.
