Update at 2:30 PM: White Lung has canceled its show tonight at the Empty Bottle. The other bands on the bill are still playing. Headliner first, the bill is now Magic Milk, Meat Wave, and Polish Gifts.
The weekend doesn’t officially begin tomorrow, but looking through the next few days of music listings I’d suggest getting a jump on making plans now, because there are a ton of good shows happening over the next few days. Tonight Detroit rapper Danny Brown and Internet sensation Kitty (nee Pryde) are at Bottom Lounge, while ex-Smiths guitarist and overall indie icon Johnny Marr’s playing Metro, while former Three 6 Mafia member Gangsta Boo’s at Reggie’s Rock Club. Tomorrow night Chicago rap stalwart Mikkey Halsted performs alongside a DJ set by “Go Crazy” producer Don Cannon at the Shrine, Stax legend Otis Clay sings at City Winery, and the two-night-long metal and hardcore festival The Rumble begins at Cobra Lounge. On Saturday night soul survivor Bettye LaVette plays the Old Town School of Folk Music, Philly soul legend (and mustache icon) John Oates plays the SPACE in Evanston, and adorable pop stars Olly Murs and Carly Rae Jepsen take over the Aragon Ballroom. And on a particularly exciting Sunday evening you can choose between seeing the Lemonheads at Lincoln Hall, psychedelic throwbacks People’s Temple at Cobra Lounge, or Japanese metal legends Loudness at Bottom Lounge.
Hit the jump for a couple more standouts.
