Music, comedy, and Bill Murray’s marriage of the two dominate this week’s best events. Here’s some of what we recommend:

Mon 10/9: The Having It All recurring comedy showcase at iO Theater (1501 N. Kingsbury) features stories of femininity, womanhood, and identity spun into improv comedy; October’s theme is “harassment and violence toward women.” The cast will stick around after for a chat. 8 PM, $5

Mon 10/9: Tash Sultana, a rare artist who transitioned from a grassroots online presence to mainstream music, plays Thalia Hall (1807 S. Allport). The Reader‘s Leor Galil writes, “Australian multi-instrumentalist Tash Sultana is an expressive performer, and that quality comes through strong in the viral YouTube videos that have helped her transform her from a street busker into a rising pop-rock darling.” 8 PM, sold out

Tue 10/10: Bill Murray doesn’t surprise anybody anymore. He bartends at SXSW, shoehorns his way into kickball games. Tonight at the Chicago Symphony Center (220 S. Michigan), he’ll join German cellist Jan Volger for New Worlds—a program of music, poetry, and prose. 7:30 PM, $150

Tue 10/10: For many years, Michael Palascak joked about living at home, delivering lines with a sort of “aw shucks” tone of endearment. He’s since moved out of his childhood home, but his genial humor remains. See him on his first of a six-day run at Zanies (1548 N. Wells). 8:30 PM, $25 plus two-item minimum

Wed 10/11: Sleight-of-hand master Ricky Jay speaks about his long career as a magician and his newfound love of acting. Join him at the DePaul University Student Center (2250 N. Sheffield). 6 PM, free

Thu 10/12: Jim Gaffigan—the laziest, sloppiest, most food-obsessed comic (in his own words) comes to the Chicago Theatre (175 N. State) as part of his Noble Ape Tour. 7:30 PM, $39.50-$89.50

Thu 10/12: The 12th annual Chicago Latino Music Festival kicks off at Instituto Cervantes (31 W. Ohio) with a rare, free performance from Peruvian guitarist and Chicago native Luis Rafael Vivanco.
