Like an old and doddering—yet still heroic—Superman, Bobby Rush, U.S. rep for Illinois’s First District, stripped off his suit jacket as he spoke on the House floor today to reveal a hoodie—a statement of support for Trayvon Martin that got Rush kicked out of our nation’s legislature like it was some kind of common gated community.
“The chair must remind members that clause 5 of rule 17 prohibits the wearing of hats in the chamber when the House is in session,” [presiding officer Gregg] Harper [(R-Miss.)] said after Rush left. “The chair finds that the donning of a hood is not consistent with this rule. Members need to remove their hoods or leave the floor.”
Rush is lucky he wasn’t shot!
Meanwhile, down the road, any prospect of reasonable, affordable health care was being dismantled by another set of old dudes in funny costumes.
