The Tuesday RedEye carries a front-page story on Chicago’s parking meter mess. The story, attributed, was lifted from the Tuesday Tribune. The front page, unattributed, was lifted from the April 9 Reader.

So it goes in journalism, where yesterday’s plagiarism is fast becoming tomorrow’s extreme aggregation.

UPDATE: Late Tuesday, RedEye editor Tran Ha sent over the following statement:

“Regular RedEye readers know that RedEye is a part of the Tribune family and we often publish stories from the Tribune that would be of interest to our readers. As for the design, I had not seen that issue of The Reader, nor had my staff.  I mean, it was a story about parking meters – and some parking meters say ‘fail’ when they don’t work.”
