Speaking of Barney, Mother Jones just put up an Imeem playlist of songs used in U.S. military prisons and bases to torture captives. Guards and interrogators play loud music to “induce sleep deprivation, ‘prolong capture shock,’ disorient detainees during interrogations–and also drown out screams,” according to “a leaked interrogation log, news reports, and the accounts of soldiers and detainees.”

Not to be all “I hate the troops” or anything, but I completely disapprove of this practice, especially the choice of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman.” If you’re putting together a torture playlist, you obviously wanna go for the early Metallica records, from back when they were still brutal.
