In January the Reader will publish its 13th annual Pure Fiction issue—a collection of short stories by local fiction writers paired with illustrations by local artists.
Here’s last year’s Pure Fiction issue, with the winning stories selected by guest curator Goldie Goldbloom.
And here’s our fiction issue archive, which includes fantastic contributions from the likes of Gina Frangello, Keir Graff, James Kennedy, Adam Langer, James McManus, Whet Moser, Zak Mucha, Anne Elizabeth Moore, Bayo Ojikutu, Zoe Zolbrod, and many more.
We’re honored that Featherproof Books‘ Zach Dodson has agreed to be guest curator for this coming Pure Fiction issue.
We’ll take submissions until November 1. Please send them to fiction@chicagoreader.com. We prefer text pasted into e-mail rather than attachments. To a degree we’re flexible on length, but up to 3,000 words is preferred. We pay for those we publish.
