Wow, sounds kinda neanderthalic, don’t it? Psych-weirdos Cave headline a (you guessed it) free show at the Empty Bottle tonight. Liz Armstrong says the band, which includes members of Mahjongg and Warhammer 48K, remains “faithful to the shitty, surreal, purposely childish aesthetic of born-in-the-80s art parties.” Also on the bill are Austin noisemakers When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth (pictured), who are supporting their latest release Not Noiice, due in May on the Brooklyn-based label Chalk Circle. Local power trio Head of Skulls plays second, featuring a few of Chicago’s finest hard hitters: guitarist/vocalist Chris Hansen of Pinebender, bassist Allison Hollihan (formerly of Atombombpocketknife), and drummer Noah Leger (who’s been keeping time in Tight Phantomz lately). Feel, er, free to rely on them for a heaping dose of refreshingly straightforward rawk. Bloodiest, reportedly a guitar duo featuring Eric Chaleff and Tony Lazzara of Sterling, open at 9 PM.
