Chicago Community Trust has named eight Fellows for 2009, including two members of Chicago’s performing arts community. Malik Gillani, co-founder and executive director of Silk Road Theatre Project, has been awarded a $30,000 “emerging leader” fellowship, as has Juan Dies, executive director and a performing musician in Sones de Mexico. Both say they’ll use the money for education that’ll help them take their organizations in new directions. Gillani plans to make Silk Road an “established multi-cultural arts center,” and Dies hopes to create a Sones de Mexico school of Mexican music in Chicago.
