Bad news for CeaseFire, which got so much positive buzz from the Steve James/Alex Kotlowitz/Kartemquin documentary The Interrupters a couple of years ago. As the Sun-Times reported, CeaseFire Illinois director Tio Hardiman was arrested by Hillside police Friday and charged with domestic battery, after his wife filed a report.

Both CeaseFire, which treats violence like an epidemic, and the film have had their skeptics along with the admirers, but the city currently has a $1 million CeaseFire violence-prevention contract.

What actually happened in this case remains to be seen, but it’s not like we needed any more proof that violence is a hard nut to crack.
