Independence Day is over and done—but that doesn’t mean you’re going to sit inside the rest of the week, right? Here’s a look at what’s happening:

Tue 7/5: Drink up and read up at Tuesday Funk, the monthly lit event at Hopleaf Bar (5148 N. Clark). Hosts Eden Robins, writer/director for JellyVision Lab, and former Gapers Block editor/publisher Andrew Huff welcome July’s lineup: Leland Cheuk, Hannah Gamble, Maggie Jenkins, Scott Smith, and Kendra Stevens. 7:30 PM

Tue 7/5:
Rock out to New York surf band High Waisted, who play at the Subterranean (2011 W. North) along with Baby Money, Dude Same, and Sports Boyfriend. If you like what you hear, be sure to catch High Waisted at Riot Fest in September. 7:30 PM

Wed 7/6: Parents with young children can take advantage of a stroller tour of the Museum of Contemporary Art (220 E. Chicago) that’s free with regular admission. Eighth Blackbird’s residency at the museum ends this week, and keep your eyes peeled for the Kerry James Marshall retrospective “Mastry.” 11:30 AM-12:30 PM

Wed 7/6: On the first day of Taste of Chicago (Columbus and Jackson), you can get a taste of the Roots at the Petrillo Music Shell (205 E. Randolph). And Chance the Rapper tweeted today that he’ll be joining in on the fun with opening act Donnie Trumpet. The show is scheduled to begin at 5:30 PM. 11 AM-9 PM

Thu 7/7: Venture into the night with the return of LevelDance’s “Nocturne” at Athenaeum Theatre (2936 N. Southport). The site-specific performance engages a small audience capped at 50.  10:30 PM

Thu 7/7: For only $3 (with an RSVP), catch Chicago-bred hip-hop sensations Open Mike Eagle and Saba, and the premier performance of Air Credits (a new collaboration from the Hood Internet and ShowYouSuck) at Double Door in Wicker Park (1572 N. Milwaukee). 7:30 PM
