I was wrapping up a transaction with a customer at Sunday’s Wicker Park farmers’ market. “Five dollars for the blueberries,” I said. “Would you like to make it $9 and throw in some cherries?”

“I was looking at those. They look good.”

“They are good. They are very good.”

“The problem is that I’m not sure if I’m going to eat them.”

“Yeah, because I’m going out of town.”

“Well, if it were me, I’d just stay home and eat cherries.”
