There are plenty of shows, films, and concerts happening this week. Here’s some of what we recommend:
Mon 10/15-Thu 10/18: Chicago International Film Festival. The Reader’s Kathleen Sachs writes: “Included in the lineup are many films made by Chicago-born or -based filmmakers or else set in our city.” Additionally, “the festival will screen more features directed by women than ever before,” according to the Reader’s Ben Sachs. Mon 10/15: White Rabbit, Red Rabbit is an experimental one-person show written by Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour and put on by Interrobang Theatre Project. “It’s as compelling and thought-provoking an hour as I’ve spent at the theater this year,” writes the Reader’s Dmitry Samarov. 8 PM, the Den Theater, 1331 N. Mon 10/15: Described by the Reader’s Izzy Yellen as “seasoned interdisciplinary artists who approach sound and music from a multitude of perspectives,” Lou Mallozzi and Douglas Ewart are playing a duo improv set at Experimental Sound Studio under the name Lunch With Money. 7:30 PM, Experimental Sound Studio, 5925 N. Wed 10/17- Thu 10/18: “‘The Long Term,’ the latest [art] exhibition created by PNAP, utilizes different media to raise awareness about long-term sentencing policies and the effects they have on inmates,” writes the Reader’s Marissa De La Cerda. Thu 10/18: Pop-Up Magazine’s Fall Issue tour at Athenaeum Theatre. Pop-Up Magazine is a live magazine, created for a stage, a screen, and a live audience. Thu 10/18: Swearin’ is “a charmingly rambunctious indie-rock group equally capable of knocking out rough-hewn rippers and stripped-back, intimate quasi ballads,” writes Reader’s Leor Galil.
